Massage during Pregnancy

This course will cover:
- Skills and techniques necessary to massage pregnant, laboring and postpartum clients competently from the first trimester, through labor, postpartum, and nursing.
- General full-body massage in seated and side lying posture
- Appropriate client positioning and draping
- The most common discomforts (i.e. backaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, gestational diabetes, etc.)
- High risk pregnancies
- The contraindications of prenatal massage.
- Swedish Massage, Reflexology and Shiatsu techniques.
- Herbal remedies and nutritional supplements
NOTE: Participants are required to bring a towel, sheets, a pillow and unscented oils to the class. If you are able to bring a pregnant woman, please inform the school at least one week prior to the workshop. The required text for the workshop is MotherMassage: A Handbook For Relieving the Discomforts of Pregnancy (available at Educating Hands Bookstore.) Please read it before class.
Nurses, midwives, Massage Therapists (licensed or current students) and other non-massage professionals who have a license to touch are invited to take this course.
PREGNANT MODELS NEEDED: If you know of pregnant women in good health who can spend Saturday morning with us, please invite them. They will receive a full body massage – or maybe two – by a licensed massage therapist, free of charge. Massage will be held from 9:00am – 12:30pm. Must confirm before hand!
